Well i found out how to remove the annoying shit from the vista welcome center. Here is my edited oobe.xml file that you should replace the original crap loaded one. Just right click save link as, and then place it in the directory below overwriting the old oobe.xml file.

  1. You can delete the whole folder: C:\Windows\System32\oobe\INFO

After that, you will have the Windows Vista Standard Welcome Center!

PS: If you want, make a backup COPY first. Don’t move the folder out, Windows Vista will track the new location and you won’t see a difference.

  2. In the INFO folder you find sub folders. They contain oobe.XML files in different languages and each folder has his own language. These oobe.XML file in a particular language describe each entry in the OEM part of the welcome screen. If you delete the entry between and including the tags, this entry is removed from the welcome screen. This way you can keep the ones you like.

  3. yeah thats exactly what i did Joop, and uploaded it so people don’t have to do it them selves, there are some people that don’t know how to edit xml files

  4. I apologize for being a neophyte but how does one edit or delete a XML file? I found the oobe garbage but on my Sony it’s a dll file in System 32. A search found a whole string of oobe files including the XML file. Failing that how do I replace their XML crapola with your fine edited version? Also why does Vista continually say “You do not have permission to edit this file” when I attempt to delete useless files?
    Thanks for your patience.
